Boulder Engagement Photos

We all know photographers love a good sunset because the lighting is *chefs kiss*, but I also love it because watching the sunset is romantic! You see it in movies and read about it in books. There’s something special about taking your engagement photos in the golden light while the sun sets behind the mountains.

Sarah and Jeff’s Boulder engagement photos were everything I just described! Romantic and full of dreamy light. I’m so excited to share the photos with you!

When I initially connected with Sarah and Jeff, I was pumped because, like me, they are from Minnesota!! I’m always excited to meet fellow Minnesotans and it always feels like we instantly have a bond. I think it’s because we have all collectively experienced bitter cold winters. Which nobody can forget or fully recover from, haha.

After hanging out with these two at their session, I’m even more excited to capture their wedding day in October! They are so easygoing and sweet together. They will be getting married at Spruce Mountain Ranch and I know it’s going to be a party!

Sarah and Jeff chose to do two outfits and two locations for their engagement session, which I think is always a great idea. Sometimes it can be tricky to fit all of that into your session time, but these two locations are super close to each other, so I always recommend it! We started at Chautauqua Park and then headed up to Lost Gulch Overlook. It’s about a 10 minute drive, full of hairpin turns, from the park up to the overlook. It can feel intimidating if you haven't drove it before, but it’s worth it! Just make sure weather conditions are safe for driving if you happen to be going up in the snow.

For the first outfit they went with a laid back look with jeans. Sarah wore a white sweater, which is always a good idea when you’re a bride to be!

The couple’s second outfit was my favorite! Sarah chose to wear a maroon dress and it absolutely popped against the backdrop! I often tell my clients to wear neutral colors, but that is they want some color, just do one so it pops. This is what I mean, people! Sarah and Jeff know what’s up.

If you can’t decide what shoes to wear…. Go barefoot. I’m so glad Sarah took her shoes off for a few photos! It just makes sense if you’re making out, carefree, in the mountains at sunset.

One thing to note if you’re hoping to take your engagement photos (or any other photos) in Boulder, is that you need a permit! Your photographer most likely has this under control, but it’s always helpful to know. My clients don’t even know a permit is required most of the time because I always have mine ready to go.

I just can’t get over these photos! It looks like they're on the edge of a cliff… and that’s because they are haha. These two were ready to do whatever necessary to get some incredible photos. Moments like this are so fun because you really are making memories with your person!

If the photos haven’t convinced you to take some Boulder engagement photos at sunset… it’s also a great excuse for a date night! There’s plenty of local restaurants to try after your session (:

October can’t come soon enough! I’m so excited to celebrate these two on their WEDDING DAY!
