Wedding Tips for Brides

You’re getting married!! Ahhh!!!

There are so many reasons to be excited about planning your wedding, but if you’re feeling a little intimidated by the wedding planning process, that’s okay, too! After photographing weddings for four years, I’ve got some tips and tricks to help make you feel prepared for your big day!

5 wedding tips for brides planning a wedding:

1. Do a hair and makeup trial

Doing a hair and makeup trial is one of the biggest way to help avoid stress leading up to your wedding day! Whether you’re having a big wedding or eloping with just your partner, there’s a good chance you’ll be getting your makeup done. And your wedding day may be one of the only times you get your makeup professionally done! So, it makes sense if you’re worried about looking like yourself. Doing a hair and makeup trial will take all that worry away because you won’t be seeing your wedding day look for the first time on your wedding day. It gives you a chance to let your hair and makeup artist know what you like and don’t like. Feeling confident that you will like how you look on your wedding day makes all the difference.

2. Don’t assign yourself any tasks for the day of your wedding

Bride and grooms: you spend a lot of time planning your wedding and creating a vision that reflects you as a couple. When it comes time to execute that vision, let the professionals handle it. If you’re a bride to be, I know it might sound tempting to set all the centerpieces yourself, but that’s the last thing you will want to be doing on your wedding day! It’s time for you and your partner to truly be present in experiencing your day. Enjoy every moment!

3. Only include traditions on your wedding day that you and your partner want to include

If first dances make you feel uncomfortable because you don’t want everyone to watch you, you don’t have to do one. Don’t like cake? Don’t feel obligated to have one! You want it to feel like your wedding day, not someone else’s.

4. Test your undergarments before putting your dress on the day of your wedding

Maybe this one is obvious or maybe this is the first time you’ve thought about it. Either way, make sure you have a game plan for what you’re going to wear under your dress (or whatever wedding attire you choose). This is similar to your hair and makeup trial: being confident in your entire wedding day look before the actual day will make such a big difference!

5. Wear shoes that are comfortable

I know, I know. Right now you might think you’ll make it in those 4 inch heels all night, but trust me, you want to make sure your comfortable so that nothing stops you from enjoying your wedding. Maybe you will wear heels for your ceremony and then bring sneakers to change into. Maybe you’re getting married on the beach and want to go barefoot! At my wedding, I wore sneakers all day and never even bought a pair of heels. Do whatever will allow you to be comfortable and enjoy your day to the fullest!

I could go on and on with other wedding tips for brides, but I think these 5 are a great start! As a wedding photographer, it’s my goal to take care of my couple’s beyond capturing their day. I’m here to brainstorm, dream and plan alongside you. You have a teammate in me! If you have any questions or want help, don’t hesitate to reach out!
