Boulder, Colorado Elopement

I met one of my brides on Christmas while waiting to pick up Chinese food.

Elopement in Boulder, Colorado

I wasn’t planning on working at 7pm on Christmas, but I had nothing better to do while my husband was inside waiting for the food. And I get SO excited anytime a bride or groom reaches out! I’m so glad I messaged Luck back while I waited in the car because her and John’s elopement in Boulder, Colorado is one of my favorite weddings I’ve had the honor of capturing.

Prior to the ceremony, I met up with Luck and John in Boulder at the Flat Irons. It was a cold, January afternoon and the path up was glare ice. Not just snowy- I truly mean a sheet of ice. I struggled to get up the hill in my snow boots and wondered what shoes Luck would be wearing. She was indeed wearing the cutest white booties, with heels. Great for photos, not ideal for hiking on ice. BUT, she absolutely crushed it with the help of her soon to be husband.

The photos, in my opinion, were so worth the icy trek up! There were almost no people around. Just Luck, John and the breathtaking views.

These two were so sweet together and the cold temps made it easy to snuggle up for some photos.

The three of us side stepped our way back to the bottom of the icy hill, where we were greeted by Luck and John’s friends and family. I love intimate weddings because I get to meet everyone there AND we can fit everyone into a photo. The group photos I took here are some of my favorite- you can just feel the love they all have for Luck and John!

Next, we headed to the courthouse for the ceremony. It was even colder now that the sun was disappearing, but we took a few photos outside of the courthouse. Braving the cold is always worth it!

I had never photographed a courthouse ceremony before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I figured it would be simple, short and to the point. I was wrong… I think we were all tearing up!

I chatted with the judge after the ceremony and told him, in all honesty, I thought that a courtroom ceremony would have been more bland.

He looked at me and said “how can you do it like that?”

And I totally agree. What an honor it is to be a part of moments like these!
