How to Get Dreamy Wedding Detail Photos

Detail photos are one of my favorite parts of a wedding day! It allows me to get creative and learn a little bit about what’s important to my couple. If you’re a bride or groom, you may be wondering how to get those dreamy detail photos, so I’m here to help!

First, I want to touch on why wedding detail photos even matter. There is often so many important details that make up a wedding day. You may spend weeks, months or years planning your wedding day- don’t you want everything that you dreamt up, captured? Once the day is over, you may not remember every little detail because the day goes by so quickly, but detail photos help you soak it in all over again. What your bouquet looked like, the cologne you wore, the “mrs” stitched on your shoe, your hand written vows or the earrings you wore. I don’t know what detail will be most important to you, but I do know that including them in your photos will transport you right back to your wedding day.

Now it’s time to make those detail photos happen! The best thing you can do is gather a box of your detail items the day or two before your wedding day. It can be hard to track down all the items you want included on the day of and your photographer most likely won’t have time in their schedule to find everything. I typically start with detail photos, so then I can return all the items to where they belong for the day.

You might be wondering what to put in your detail box, so here’s a list of some of the typical items. You most likely won’t have all of these and that’s okay! You will also probably have additional items that are important to you. Make sure you include those items, too. They’re your details after-all.

-rings

-loose or extra flowers

-bride’s dress

-bride’s jewelry

-veil

-bride’s hair piece

-groom’s watch

-groom’s attire/suit

-bouquet

-groom’s tie

-garter

-tie clip

-cuff links

-perfume and/or cologne

-bride and groom’s shoes

-invites, save the dates, programs, etc

-vows/ vow books

-anything else that is meaningful or significant

I always bring cute, neutral ring boxes, a velvet hanger and some other goodies to make your detail photos pop. Some people may be apprehensive to include items that they don’t think will photograph well, but your photographer knows best. So, give them everything you got and your photographer will make it happen!

Here’s to the wedding detail photos of your dreams! xx
